1930's Alvar Aalto chair model 402
Beautiful 1930's chair 402 by Alvar Aalto and purchased in Gustaf Axel Bergs furniture store in Stockholm, Sweden. Made of curved birch wood and new upholstery in sheepskin. On the inside of the frame there is a mark for "Made in Finland" and Gustaf Axel Berg plaque underneath.
Armchair 402 was first presented by the Finnish designer Alvar Aalto at the Milan Triennale in 1933. This example was made in Finland by Artek and later sold at Gustaf Axel Bergs furniture store in Stockholm. Gustaf Axel Berg was like Alto an early maker of bentwood furniture and experimented with materials in his own furniture designs.
